Recently this space has been crowded by these young gentlemen, but really, who’s complaining? Last Friday they asked me to sit in on some of the studio time they’d been taking up at Bird & Egg in Richmond, California, and I obliged them happily, though I got horribly lost on the way there, and ended up first in Pinole, then caught in southbound rush-hour traffic, then at a curb somewhere on Portrero, sweating and cursing and climbing out to check damage to my car, to the other car. I got to the studio nearly two hours late to find them much as I always do, offering really rather effective hugs, and acting pretty effortlessly as a warm buffer against any kind of ill-temper. I’ve got more from this roll and another roll on the way, and maybe i’ll throw in something totally unrelated eventually. The light here has been absolute ruination. Beautiful, beautiful, murderous.
