freesound

I discovered this site a few months back, bookmarked it, and then promptly forgot it even existed. I had, for some reason or other, been looking for a searchable database of onomatopoetic words (I may have been undertaking some sort of misguided cross-cultural project, lyrically), and freesound provides not only those but a host of other noises, from field recordings to guitar riffs, all released under a creative commons license.

I haven’t used any of the recordings yet, but I imagine I will rifle through them during the wintry months and find something fascinating. Seems like a great resource.
